Les has been practicing yoga, an art which he sees as a celebration of life, for many years. As a former competitive swimmer, he recognized that there was tremendous attention paid to the breath. This focused awareness centered around the breathing in many ways resembles pranayama yoga practice.
Les was officially introduced to yoga at the gym while weight lighting. Feeling unfulfilled with other workouts he jumped into a yoga class with vim vigor. Fortunately, the teacher Steph Snyder's sense of humor enabled him to laugh and letting go. By the end of class, when he collapsed into Savasana (corpse pose), he remembers feeling dead, and a bit emotional and embarrassed, but he was hooked.
Over the years, he practiced with many many amazing teachers. Some guided his to continue studying the 8 Limbs of Yoga, while others helped him to explore meditation and the 8 Fold Path of Buddhism. He accredits his teachers with giving him permission to embrace life.
In April of 2005 Les left the corporate world and signed up for the Forrest teacher training. The experience "woke him up". He started teaching immediately, and never looked back.
